Vestjylland Region

Map.jpg

Vestjylland is a loosely-defined region bordered by Nordjylland in the north, running as far south as Blåvandshuk, and bordered in the east by the Jutland Ridge ("Jyske Højderyg"), a slight ridge running north-to-south down the center of the Jutland Peninsula.

Women's Costumes

Vestjylland 2.jpg

Vestjylland woman, 1800
This costume comes from Ringkøbing County and consists of a homemade wool-linen ("hvergarn") fabric used for both the bodice and the skirt. The woman is not wearing the famed Ringkøbing top hat because that fashion developed in later decades after 1800.

Vestjylland man, 1790
This type of suit was worn all over Denmark, not just in Vestjylland.
This suit was worn by a farmer from Hvide Sande (near Ringkøbing). The jacket lacks a seam in the middle of the back which most had at the time. The breeches were black-blue wadmal wool, but could have been leather or velvet. A knited cap or wide-brimmed hat.
